Sand Creek Massacre: Without Any Declaration Of War

Sand Creek Massacre: Without Any Declaration Of War

The beginning of the American Civil War in 1861 led to the organization of military forces in Colorado Territory. In March 1862, the Coloradans defeated the Texas Confederate Army in the Battle of Glorieta Pass in New Mexico. Following the battle, the First Regiment of Colorado Volunteers returned to Colorado Territory under the command of Colonel John Chivington.

Chivington and Colorado territorial governor John Evans adopted a hard line against “Indians”, whom white settlers accused of stealing livestock.

Without any declaration of war, in April 1864 soldiers started attacking and destroying a number of Cheyenne camps, the largest of which included about 70 lodges, about 10% of the housing capacity of the entire Cheyenne nation.

Tensions peaked that summer, following the murder of a white family near Denver Colorado, a crime attributed at the time to raiding Cheyenne or Arapaho…

By Geoffrey Morgan | November 16, 2015

CALGARY – Executives in the Canadian oilpatch are dismayed the federal government is poised to ban crude oil tanker traffic on the North Coast of B.C., which would hurt the Northern Gateway pipeline’s chances of being built.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau followed through on one of his election promises when he asked Transportation Minister Marc Garneau to “formalize a moratorium on crude oil tanker traffic on British Columbia’s North Coast” in a mandate letter published Friday.

“All of the natural resources that we, as a natural resources country, sell, we sell at the world price except for one,” Questerre Energy Corp. president and CEO Michael Binnion said, referring to oil.

He added that Canadian oil producers are forced to accept a…

MEDIA ADVISORY FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FBI interferes with exhibit of work by the renowned Native American artist Leonard Peltier

An art exhibit commemorating National Native American Month at the state Department of Labor and Industries building, Tumbwater, Washington, is being dismantled in response to complaints received from law enforcers.

“This is overt government censorship and it’s unconstitutional,” said Peter Clark, co-director of the International Leonard Peltier Defense Committee.

“Former agents of the FBI, joined by State police officers, have imposed their personal views on the citizens of the State of Washington. It’s ironic that in celebration of Native American Month, the government is suppressing freedom of expression by a Native American. But everyone should be alarmed by this occurrence. Once you allow the censorship of an artist by government, you give it the power to censor everyone.”

Those opposing the installation of the artwork were not offended by the content…

Grace Islet Home On Sacred Aboriginal Cemetery To Be Demolished

Cultural workers will be at the site to ensure that 16 cairns are not disturbed

Crews will soon deconstruct a partially built home on a sacred burial site off Salt Spring Island, B.C., after a multimillion-dollar deal with the landowner.

Construction on a Grace Islet house started last fall after the landowner got the necessary permits, but First Nations raised concerns about the historical significance of the area.

Work stopped in December, and the land was transferred to the Nature Conservancy of Canada after the B.C. government paid the landowner $5.45 million.

Linda Hannah, the nature conservancy’s regional vice-president, said Monday that the house was at the framing stage when the order to stop work was issued.

She said cultural workers will be at the site to ensure that 16 cairns beneath the foundation are not disturbed.
Hannah said elders from eight First…

Capture Eagle

By Judith Lavoie / DeSmog Canada

Two Treaty 8 First Nations have applied for an injunction to prevent BC Hydro from cutting down trees containing eagle nests in preparation for construction of the controversial Site C Dam.

Several legal challenges to the $8.8-billion dam are pending, but the nest removal is scheduled to start September 1, according to a letter from BC Hydro to the Treaty 8 Tribal Association that gives notice of the “planned removal and destruction of Bald Eagle nests from construction areas of the Site C Clean Energy Project.”

Applications to the B.C. Supreme Court for an injunction and a judicial review have been made by the Prophet River First Nation and West Moberly First Nations. In a separate case, both bands are also seeking to overturn provincial approval for the dam.

The petition asking for an injunction says that Treaty 8 First Nations will suffer irreparable harm that cannot be mitigated…

This is digital genocide of Native Americans

“Genocide is the systematic elimination of all or a significant part of a racial, ethnic, religious, or national group.”
“Authentic Native American facebook pages are being systematically eliminated by foreign groups.”

In 2008 most, if not all, Native American facebook pages and groups were operated by Native Americans. Recently, I reviewed 10 Native American facebook pages and 8 were operated by non-natives.

In 2008 all Native American images were Native American or copyrighted by their respected creator–the way it should be. In September 2014, facebook introduced the DCMA copyright standards–more man made laws. Now most non Natives are capitalizing on these laws by adding their facebook URLs and copyright marks to every unmarked Native American image they can find …

Normally I would appreciate the extra enthusiasm for promoting my heritage, but there are a handful of groups that can easily have all authentic Native American pages eliminated.  These groups are reporting copyright infringement laws on art work from Native America. The only entities that are affected are the Native American facebook pages who share these images.

Here’s what I predict, in a very short time everyone will be enjoying Native American wisdom from foreign groups.
